History

In line with the thurst from International Council of Nurses(ICN) to organize nurses into various interest groups, the Philippine Nurse`s Association(PNA) gave a call to pediatric nurses to organize and form a collective action in order to attain some objectives. However, since pediatrics and obstetrics are collectively interwined with each specialization, there was a felt need to include obstetric nurses as one entity in the organization. Thus, the birth of Maternal and Child Nurses Association of the Philippines.

On November 27, 1980, the first general assembly of practicing maternal and child nurses was held. The first Constitution and By-Laws was approved by the body thus the birth of specialty in nursing the Maternal and Child Nurse's Association of the Philippines(MCNAP).

The primary goal of the organization was to provide a mechanism for exchange of information related to issues that affects Maternal and Child Health Nursing practice.

On June 24, 1997 MCNAP was finally incorporated in the Securities and Exchange Commision (SEC). Since MCNAP has a semblance to MCHAP, Maternal and Child Health Association pf the Philippines, the association has been advised by SEC to change the word Maternal to Mother. The official name of the organization is now Mother and Child Nurses Association of the Philippines, Incorporated.

Vision: A stronger, more viable organization that will elevate the standards of safe maternal and child nursing, improve the image of the maternal and child nurse as a professional and further the interest of maternal and child nursing practitioner in the country.

Mission:  1. Serve as forum for the discussion of ideas to improve maternal and child nursing in the areas of clinical practice, research and education.
                 2. Be an advocate for maternal and child nurse, making a stand on issues relevant to their welfare both as individuals and as professinals
                 3. Involve maternal and child nursing specialists in development of programs on maternal and child nursing
                 4. Promote nursing research to encourage the practice of evidence based studies in maternal and child practice as well as develop maternal and child specialist.

Objectives:    1. Promote and maintain standards of nursing practice in the Philippines specializing in Maternal and Child Health Services.
                       2. Develop and implement educational programs relevant to maternal and child nursing practice, education and research.
                       3. Network with professional organizations and agencies to participate in the discusions of issues which directly and indirectly affect the welfare of mothers and children.
                       4. Foster unity, fellowship and cooperation among its members.
